Check certifications first
Start with compliance. A credible Malaysian skincare OEM should be ready for NPRA notification and hold GMP certification. ISO 22716 (cosmetics GMP) and Halal certification from JAKIM are strong additional signals, especially for the local and wider ASEAN market.
Understand MOQ and lead time
Minimum order quantity (MOQ) and lead time decide whether a factory fits your stage. Ask for MOQ per SKU, not just per order, and confirm lead times for both stock formulations and custom development.
Evaluate R&D and quality control
A strong factory has an in-house lab, documented QC, batch testing and stability testing. Ask to see a sample certificate of analysis and how they handle out-of-spec batches.
