FYLL, a meal-in-a-pouch launched in 2025, is the Malaysian meal replacement brand to watch in 2026: in about 16 months it has reached 82 shelves across five retail chains, holds JAKIM certification for its core flavours and ships to four overseas markets. Grainlive, the best-selling meal replacement online with 32,212 Lazada units sold, is second; HeyGrains, REGIS and TasteBudds complete the list.
Key takeaways
- A new wave of Malaysian meal replacement brands has launched since 2019, and two very different playbooks are working: marketplace-first (Grainlive) and shelf-first (FYLL).
- Protein is now the main point of difference. FYLL and HeyGrains offer about 18g per serving and TasteBudds up to 27g, while the first-wave grain shakes give under 4g.
- Four of the five have their product named on a JAKIM halal certificate, which matters for pharmacy and supermarket listings in Malaysia.
- Three of the five already sell outside Malaysia, mostly to Singapore.
- Established players such as KITSUI (2003) and Total Image still lead on reach, but none of the new brands competes with them on price — they compete on formula and format.
Who this list is for
Founders and brand owners weighing a meal replacement or functional-nutrition launch in Malaysia, and anyone tracking which homegrown brands are gaining ground. It looks at momentum — how much a young brand has built for its age — not at which shake is best to drink. For a consumer ranking of the market as a whole, see Malaysia's Top Ten's top 10 meal replacement shakes, which is the source dataset for the sales and price figures here.
How we chose this list
We started from the 20 meal replacement brands in Malaysia's Top Ten's 5 October 2026 study and kept those that are Malaysian-owned and launched in 2019 or later. Five passed. Each was scored out of 12 on momentum, using rules set before scoring:
- Newness (0–3): launched 2025 or later = 3, 2023–24 = 2, 2021–22 = 1, 2019–20 = 0.
- Retail chains (0–3): national retail chains stocking the product: 1 = 1, 2 = 2, 3 or more = 3.
- Online traction (0–3): Lazada Malaysia units sold per year in market (5 October 2026): 3,000 or more = 3, 1,000–2,999 = 2, 100–999 = 1.
- Halal (0–2): 2 if the product is named on a JAKIM certificate (checked live 6 October 2026).
- Regional (0–1): 1 for official sales outside Malaysia.
Full house rules are on our methodology page.

1. FYLL — shelf-first, and fast (9/12)
FYLL, from Reneu Group Sdn Bhd, launched its Complete Meal pouch in mid-2025. Its store locator now lists 82 outlets across BilaBila Mart (38), Alpro Pharmacy (20), Jaya Grocer (19), Qra (4) and Seibu (1) — the widest physical reach of any meal replacement in Malaysia's Top Ten's study, built in about 16 months. Each meal gives 18g plant protein, 4g fibre and no added sugar, with 500mg of Gastro-AD postbiotics and protein crisps and rice puffs for texture (company-stated). Complete Meal Dark Chocolate and Houjicha are named on a JAKIM certificate valid to 15 May 2028, and the brand ships to Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Australia. Score: newness 3, retail 3, online 0, halal 2, regional 1. Watch for: whether it adds marketplace stores — it is not on Lazada and was not in Shopee's top 15, so its online demand is unmeasured. Lesson for founders: a premium price (RM13.90 a meal at Alpro) can work when the formula and the shelf placement both justify it.
2. Grainlive — the marketplace leader (8/12)
Grainlive, made in Penang by Every Morning Sdn Bhd since 2019, is the best-selling meal replacement online in Malaysia: 32,212 units sold across its Lazada listings and 13,542 reviews, plus three places in Shopee's top 15 for "meal replacement" (5 October 2026). It is also on shelf at Guardian, Caring and Alpro, and 13 flavours are named on a JAKIM certificate. Its 20-grain, dairy-free formula is light — 114 kcal, 3.6g protein and 1.7g fibre per 30g serving — which keeps the price at about RM4 a serving. Score: newness 0, retail 3, online 3, halal 2, regional 0. Watch for: a higher-protein line; protein is where newer rivals are attacking. Lesson for founders: a wide flavour range and pharmacy-chain distribution can sustain marketplace volume for years.
3. HeyGrains — the formula play (7/12)
HeyGrains, from Lovinze in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur (founded 2023, company-stated), pairs isolated soy and pea protein with 34 whole grains and no added sugar. At 36.7g protein and 16.3g fibre per 100g, a 50g sachet gives about 18g protein and 8g fibre — the most fibre of any shake in Malaysia's Top Ten's study. It is sold at Watsons and Alpro, has 1,656 Lazada units sold and holds two places in Shopee's top 15. Its cocoa product is named on a JAKIM certificate. Score: newness 2, retail 2, online 1, halal 2, regional 0. Watch for: renewal of its JAKIM product listing, which expires on 15 November 2026, and a second flavour (Taro Ube) gaining shelf space.
4. REGIS — quietly regional (6/12)
REGIS Commerce Sdn Bhd, a company registered around 2021, sells Chocolate, Matcha and Taro shakes in Malaysia and Singapore. Its Re-Meal sachet has 25 grains, probiotics and 8g protein at 152 kcal (company-stated). REGIS Formula Dietary Food is named on a JAKIM certificate, a trial pack is on Watsons shelves, and its official Lazada store has sold about 1,726 shakes. Score: newness 1, retail 1, online 1, halal 2, regional 1. Watch for: its JAKIM product listing expires on 31 October 2026 — renewal is the first thing a retailer will check.
5. TasteBudds — the ready-to-drink outlier (3/12)
TasteBudds was started in January 2022 by Collin Chang and Joslyn Yip, two former lawyers, as an online vegan liquid-meal brand. Its pouches give up to 27g protein with probiotics and fibre (company-stated), and it launched in Singapore in 2024. Its official Lazada store shows 1,716 units sold. TasteBudds says its drinks are produced in halal-certified facilities, but we did not find a TasteBudds product in JAKIM's product directory. Score: newness 1, retail 0, online 1, halal 0, regional 1. Watch for: retail listings in gyms and pharmacies, which the founders have said they are pursuing. Lesson for founders: ready-to-drink formats carry higher logistics costs than powder, which shows in the price.
The incumbents they are up against
The new wave competes with established names that were outside this list's 2019 cut-off. KITSUI, a halal wellness brand since 2003, sells the cheapest meal replacement in the study at about RM2.50 a sachet and 4,540 Lazada units sold. Total Image Meal Shape has been JAKIM-certified for years and sits on Watsons shelves. The direct-selling giants — Herbalife Formula 1, Amway's BodyKey and Shaklee Life Cinch — rely on member networks rather than retail. None of the five new brands tries to undercut KITSUI on price; they compete on protein, gut-health ingredients and format.
Notable exclusions
- KITSUI and Total Image Meal Shape — Malaysian, but launched before 2019 (see above).
- Fiboo — tops Shopee's meal replacement sales list, but we could not confirm Malaysian ownership.
- Cal Down (Signature Market) — launch date not published; 1,200 Lazada units sold.
- TITAN RATION (Agym Nutrition) — not found on Lazada, and not on the maker's JAKIM product list.
- Flimeal and FortyFour — Indonesian and Korean brands respectively.
Frequently asked questions
Which Malaysian meal replacement brand is growing fastest in 2026?
FYLL, according to OEM Hallmark's momentum score (9/12, 6 October 2026). Launched in 2025, it has reached 82 retail outlets across BilaBila Mart, Alpro Pharmacy, Jaya Grocer, Qra and Seibu, holds JAKIM certification for its Dark Chocolate and Houjicha meals and ships to four overseas markets. Its online sales are not measured, because it is not sold on Lazada.
Which Malaysian meal replacement sells the most online?
Grainlive, with 32,212 units sold across its Lazada Malaysia listings and three places in Shopee's top 15 for meal replacement, captured 5 October 2026 by Malaysia's Top Ten. It is far ahead of the next Malaysian brand, KITSUI, with 4,540 units.
Are Malaysian meal replacement brands halal-certified?
Most are. FYLL, Grainlive, HeyGrains and REGIS have products named on a JAKIM certificate (checked 6 October 2026), as do the older KITSUI and Total Image Meal Shape. TasteBudds states its drinks are made in halal-certified facilities, but we did not find its products in JAKIM's directory. See KilangHALAL's list of JAKIM-certified meal replacement brands.
What do new meal replacement brands compete on in Malaysia?
Mainly protein and gut health. The first wave of grain shakes gives under 4g protein per serving; newer brands such as FYLL and HeyGrains give about 18g, and TasteBudds up to 27g. Postbiotics, probiotics and added fibre are the other common claims. Price is not the battleground: KITSUI already sells at about RM2.50 a sachet.

Limitations
This is desk research. Momentum is scored from public signals — retail listings, Lazada units and JAKIM records — not from company revenue, which none of these brands publishes. Lazada counts are cumulative per listing; brands that sell mainly through their own website or shops, such as FYLL, are under-measured. Launch years are company-stated or taken from press coverage, and REGIS's is estimated from its company registration. Nutrition figures are company-stated.
